Honeywell cables are of high quality (Using their 5m HDMI cable for quite some time). Connected this one with a 5.1 soundbar and it works perfectly. If your device/sound card supports compressed 5.1 via optical (or S/PDIF), it will support Surround Sound/Dolby Digital as well (It’s more a factor of the output device than the optic cable). Very happy with the purchase
